Can Rugby be Art?

If you have any doubt in your mind as to the answer to that question, I suggest you get yourself down to The Halpern Gallery in Nucleus Arts, 272 High Street Chatham to view the latest exhibition. It’s on now until June 21st.

Local artistes have submitted work in celebration of Medway Rugby Club’s 90 year anniversary. There’s everything from mixed media, textile art and traditional oil paintings, to photography, abstracts and Jewellery. The Scarlet and Gold club colours are echoed in the art on all 4 walls.

The club chose one of the works for their clubhouse. Everything else is up for sale. Many pieces have already sold, including two of my photographs. The subject presented a challenge to some artists whilst others, including myself, are up for anything - often the most challenging results in an unexpected opportunity for earning and experimenting and also networking with viewers who may not be who you would create art for. In my case, I discovered how much I enjoy abstracting a photo to a theme, in this case I used striking colours to transform my pictures.
