Back to the Beginning

The transformative power of Art.

One photoshoot. One tree. One incredible experience.

Beneath ‘Big Mamma’ I had a life-changing experience. She gave me hope. She gave me life. She gave me my confidence back. This was the beginning of my new life.

I entered a competition today. It’s one of those incredibly intimidating photography platforms that exhibit globally and have prestigious judges. I don’t know how I will fare. All I know is the standard couldn’t be higher and although I am realistic in my expectations - I don’t expect my images will be selected - I believe in believing in yourself. I chose images from a very special and significant photoshoot. These were taken by the talented Trudi Simpson, photographer and co-founder of ViCeP(h)3 Arts Collective. The shoot was a result of an conversation with Trudi about release and transformation, going back to the earth and being re-birthed by nature. The original shots were black and white and have been digitally manipulated as part of my creative exploration into how to add depth of meaning through tonal/textural enhancement.

Walking over to ‘Big Mamma’

Whoever has learned how to listen to trees no longer wants to be a tree. She wants to be nothing except what she is. That is home. That is happiness.
